1750 fully done wooo.....

So this week i decided to skip painting the rough riders (will they ever be done?) and paint the last 2 models to make my 1750 point list as i currently don't have a fully painted army and would be nice to have one finished off.

First was the Vanquisher which is an old Leman Russ kit moderned up so new style heavy bolters and an extended barrel with the addition of some chaos spiky bits to tie it in to the rest of the army, a banner top from the blood crusher sprue was added to the turret, but no dead Brazen claws this time...
I had seen some pics on the forge world face book group this week of some tanks with weathered barrels so gave it a go making the end of the barrel look like it had smoke damage, this was done by layering up glazes of Abbadon black until it was dark enough.

The big project of the week was the Bloodthirster which was converted from 3 kits the plastic demon prince, a doombull and the main part of the conversion Scyla Anfingrimm, I used him as the base of the model due to his size and how bat shit crazy he looks, I had the tail on the model for ages but while i was green stuffing up the shoulders to hold the wings it was removed with a pair of clippers and i didn't look back.
I continued the colour scheme i had used for the bloodletters but spent allot more time on the flesh and getting smooth blends on both the white and black parts of the model.
The spines and teeth were painted in the same way as i had done the masks on all the guardsmen but i took this a few stages further to make it look like bone, having the spines and teeth both this colour tied the whole model together better when the spines were black they were lost in the fur.
The army list!

Company command, Plasma pistol, plasma gun, regimental standard, vox caster 95

Infantry platoon
Platoon command, vox caster, heavy flamer 55
Infantry squad flamer, auto cannon 65

The Infantry are done!

I wanted to get a legal army fully painted and now i have that even if its not the whole army there's an HQ and 2 troop choices now done get in!....

So here's the command group there has been a little bit of convertion on these changing all the auto guns to lasguns and adding an aerial to the vox caster but other than that they are straight out of the lovely plastic bag they came in from forge world.
I played around with what colour i wanted the banner to be tried it the same colour as all of the gas masks with a black star, but decided to go back to the black and red as it tied in better with the rest of the army.
As expected i spent quite a bit more time on the commander due to the amount of skin exposed on the model and this allowed me to use some of the funky techniques i had learnt painting the priest right at the beginning of the project. Using red glazes to make the skin look agitated around areas where wires or metal implants were exposed. I should really give this guy a name but what?...Commander Parov keeps popping into my head probably due to my music choices while painting.
The 2 plasma weapons in the unit i decided to paint up bright blue as that stood out allot more than the green that i tried which just clashed with the reds of the rest of the models.

Now all the foot troops were finished i thought it would be good to have their defences done for them to stand behind so i set to work removing the imperial eagles from the aegis defence line and replace them with chaos spiky bits and chains, a couple of these where a pain in the ass to stick on having to bend them around the shape of the barricade and hold them there until the glue went off but they do look cool!
This was going to be all i painted this week but the new turret from forge world had been sat on my painting table looking at be so it felt wrong not to paint another leman russ. This was done in the same way as the other tanks but i added a few spikes i had left over from the spikey bits sprue.
As you can see in the picture there is an impaled space marine helmet and continuing with an on going theme in all my armies it had to be a head from one of Dave's armies so his Brazen Claws got killed off this time.

How much longer can i put off converting the Rough Riders i wonder.....

The New Year

With a few games now under my belt and using some models as stand ins i think i have a list i am happy with!
My forge world and Games workshop orders turned up so i was able to finish off the rest of platoon, this included a commissar i had been playing about with for a bit. I liked the idea of including one of these as for a khorne army he represents an agitator pushing his men forward or not letting them retreat. i wanted something a bit different for this and had looked at using allot of different models but my mind  kept going back to the witch hunter from the sisters of battle range. This would mean quite a bit of heavy converting but with the new fine cast being so easy to use that wouldn't be a problem. the main things were to remove all of the inquisition symbols and do a hat and gun swap. The idea of using one of the bloodletter swords had also been playing on my mind so i went about it shortening the sword a bit so it didn't dwarf the model.
so after the converting work was done i went onto the painting. I wanted him to stand out from the rest of the army but still match in with the whole feel of it so kept my pallet the same just moving the colours around on the model a bit.
His under coat was painted in the same way as the heads on the renegades and there is allot less red on the model just the sword and the band on his hat.the face on this model was a bit of a challange to paint as its sort of tucked away behind the large collar of his undercoat and this took me a couple of goes to get right.

Next up would be finishing the rest of the platoon. The new bits were here so i could get to work on the command squad and the remaining 4 men of the blob squad and then the 3 more auto cannons i had added.
The command squad needed to look like the rest but stand out so i painted one of their shoulders a different colour (dark red). This worked well and makes them stand out.
There's a little bit of converting going on in this unit but nothing crazy a head swap on the officer and a new flamer hose on the heavy to make the arms fit. This along with the last few men and 3 more weapons teams finishes the platoon off!
Next up is the company command so that i have a legal army done.....
